Tesla Inc. TSLA CEO Elon Musk struck an ominous note on Twitter on Monday as he referred to a mass extinction event that ended the Cretaceous period.
What happened: Musk said what accelerated the demise of dinosaurs and led to the proliferation of mammals on planets could happen again.
The entrepreneur shared a BBC article in his tweet with the following comments: “It will happen again, it’s only a matter of time.”

Why is this important: The article shared by Musk talked about the rise of mammals after the dinosaurs were decimated by a 10 km wide asteroid that hit present-day Mexico with a force of more than a billion nuclear bombs.
Musk is a supporter of settling on Mars in order to extend the “probable lifespan” of mankind.
He said in April, “I think we really just had this little candle of consciousness like a little light in the void and we don’t want this little candle in a vast darkness to be extinguished.”
More recently, he said: “Mars could be a repairer of a planetbut it has great potential.
Price Action: On Monday, shares of Tesla closed down 1.1% at $284.82 in the regular session and gained 0.4% in extended trading, according to Benzinga Pro data.
