The rise in prices is the result of insufficient supply to meet demand caused in part by reduced gasoline production at refineries undergoing maintenance, said Marie Montgomery, public relations specialist at the Automobile Club. of Southern California, at City News Service.
Governor Gavin Newsom has asked refineries to switch to their winter gas mix earlier than normal. The blend is generally cheaper, but analysts say it’s unclear how long drivers will see this change at the pump.
Meanwhile, some relief may soon come through gas refund checks for Californians who have filed their 2020 tax returns.
The checks could be deployed as early as Friday.
