The Premier League is back for the 2026/27 season, with another campaign of title battles, new signings, promoted clubs and some of the biggest names in world football.
Arsenal enter the season as defending champions after winning their first Premier League title in 22 years, while Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and the rest of England’s elite will be looking to challenge them.
Three promoted teams have also joined the competition, while a busy summer transfer window has already reshaped several squads.

There are 20 clubs competing in the Premier League this season:

Each team plays 38 league matches — once at home and once away against every other club.
That creates 380 Premier League matches across the full season.
Who Were Promoted to the Premier League for 2026/27?
Three clubs arrived from the Championship:
Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town.
They replaced Burnley, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were relegated at the end of 2025/26.
Coventry’s promotion was particularly significant. The club returned to the Premier League for the first time since the 2000/01 season after spending 25 years outside England’s top division.
Hull and Ipswich also made immediate headlines after returning. Both won their opening matches of the new season, with Hull producing a major 2-0 victory over Manchester United.
Arsenal Begin as Defending Champions
One of the biggest questions of 2026/27 is whether Arsenal can successfully defend their title.
The Gunners ended a 22-year wait for a Premier League championship in 2025/26 and now have an opportunity to win consecutive titles.
They have also strengthened their squad during the summer, including the signing of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
Arsenal will face serious competition, however, with Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and other contenders hoping to take the trophy away from North London.

The summer transfer window has produced some significant moves.
Among the biggest confirmed transfers so far are:
Bruno Guimaraes → Arsenal
Arsenal added the Brazilian midfielder from Newcastle United as they strengthen their squad for their title defence.
Elliot Anderson → Manchester City
Manchester City brought in the England midfielder from Nottingham Forest.
Morgan Rogers → Chelsea
Chelsea strengthened their attack by signing Rogers from Aston Villa.
Sandro Tonali → Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham added the former Newcastle midfielder as part of a busy summer rebuild.
Ayyoub Bouaddi → Manchester City
The Moroccan midfielder joined City from Lille after attracting attention during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Tottenham have been particularly active, while Chelsea and Manchester City have also made substantial changes to their squads.
Important: the transfer window is still open. It officially closes at 23:00 BST on 1 September 2026, so more deals could still be completed.
